Preference and paradox: Local residents’ perspectives on the reuse of post‐agricultural brownfield sites

Structural change in the agricultural economy may result abandonment of buildings, creating rural brownfield sites. Since fall Iron Curtain 1989, post-agricultural brownfields have become very common Central and Eastern Europe. Our aim is to uncover understand reuse preferences for 16 options, among 1275 survey respondents (local residents) from 272 communities with Czech Republic. The influence respondent status, socioeconomic characteristics those environmental were tested using redundancy analysis variation partitioning. Three types identified as most preferred respondents: reuse, industrial housing, services leisure time activities. We found strong significant ties between pattern potential options demographic, community context variables. It can therefore be concluded that renewal tend constructed comprehensively encompass social, economic dimensions sustainability. In order implement a vision promotes sustainable development, we need recognise residents are fundamentally shaped by local environment highly dependent on place-based circumstances.
